Description:

1. Article QX20: Boy's brown suit (and accompanying suit bag) with a white long-sleeved shirt and a tie with a geometrical diamond pattern,

2. Article QX28 grey: Boy's dark-grey pinstripe suit with a waistcoat, a white long-sleeved shirt and a brown tie with a geometrical pattern of small squares,

3. Article QX30: Boy's blue pinstripe suit with a white shirt. The grey fabric label sewn to the inside of the blazer bears the brand in red.

4. Article QX31: Boy's blue pinstripe suit with a white shirt and a geometrically patterned tie bearing light-coloured horizontal stripes in two shades of beige/gold, separated by narrow brown lines.

5. Article QX28 black: Boy's black pinstripe suit with a waistcoat, a white long-sleeved shirt and a geometrically patterned tie, yellow/gold and brown in colour and with slanting lines of two alternating widths.

Chemical

The products pose a chemical risk because they contain hexavalent chromium, in concentrations varying from 0.6 to 5 mg/kg. Oeko Tex Standard 100 states that, to ensure optimum quality, total chromium content should be less than 1 mg/kg for children's clothing and less than 2 mg/kg for all other clothing, regardless of whether it is in contact with the skin. According to the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR; 2007), chromium VI should actually be below the detection limit due to the substance's cutaneous sensitisation properties, i.e. its ability to cause allergic reactions such as contact dermatitis. Taking into account that the target population is children who have a tendency to suck on their clothing and that the chromium VI content is above established limit values, it is considered that exposure may occur not only via the cutaneous route, but also by the oral and inhalatory route and that the products therefore pose a chemical risk.

Action Taken:

Seizure of the products ordered by the authorities.
